This is a very special project. The client, Daniel Levin, has participated in development process more than ever before in my practice of designing for musicians. Initially Daniel had a clear idea of what kind of “new website” he needs and why. And thus his choice of design4music was conscious.
daniel-levin.com was there before we started. It was an all flash website with a quite decent design. However it offered only a very limited control over the content.
Lack of flexibility of his web presentation was Daniel’s major concern and the main reason behind renovation. The new website had to be a publishing platform for frequently updated content and allow easy administration.
As soon as designs were created and new templates approved we concentrated on a content strategy. It was important to decide what content blocks are essential with website launch and what can be added any time later. Information blocks were re-arranged several times and the original design mutated a great deal until we came to a present state.
Daniel wanted his site for the end of January when his newest CD “Organic Modernism” was officially out! A CD release concert was scheduled on 22-nd of January. So we aimed to launch the website by then. The site was there by the planned date although a few things were changed, added the very last moment and after.
The project is greatly a fruit of our cooperation with Daniel Levin. He entered most of content allowing me to concentrate on technical issues and design. His feedback, feature requests and suggestions helped to create a really original web presentation for a cellist, improviser, composer - Daniel Levin.
